No audio captured

The most common issue. StageWhisper starts a session but no transcript appears. Check Screen Recording permission. Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording. Make sure StageWhisper is listed and enabled. If you just granted the permission, restart the app. Check your audio output. StageWhisper captures system audio output. If your call audio is going to a device that macOS doesn’t route through the standard output (some Bluetooth setups), StageWhisper may not pick it up. Try switching to built-in speakers or a standard headphone jack to test. Make sure the call app is producing audio. Join a test call and confirm you can hear the other person before starting a StageWhisper session.

Session starts but no signals appear

Signals depend on having enough conversation to analyze. A few things to check:
  • Wait at least 30 seconds of active conversation. The AI needs some context before it can generate useful suggestions.
  • Confirm your Playbook has guidance written in it. An empty Playbook gives the AI nothing to coach against.
  • Check your subscription status. Signal generation requires an active subscription.

Overlay not visible during calls

If you started a session but don’t see the StageWhisper panel:
  • Press Cmd + \ to toggle the overlay visibility.
  • Check if “Private” mode is enabled on the control panel. When private, the overlay hides from screen recordings and may also be hidden from view depending on your setup.
  • Make sure the Accessibility permission is granted (System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility).

Login issues

Browser doesn’t open when clicking “Log in.” Try manually navigating to dashboard.stagewhisper.io and logging in there, then restart the desktop app. Logged out unexpectedly. Auth tokens expire after a period. Click “Log in” again to re-authenticate. Your session data is not lost.

Tone analysis not showing

Tone analysis is available on the Signals Starter and Signals Pro plans. If you’re on the Coach plan, the tone visualization tab won’t appear. If you’re on a Signals plan and still don’t see tone data:
  • Check that tone is enabled in your session capabilities (the app shows this when you start a session).
  • Some sessions may not receive tone data if the audio quality is too low for analysis.

App won’t update

StageWhisper checks for updates on launch and prompts you when a new version is available. If the update fails:
  1. Download the latest version manually from dashboard.stagewhisper.io/download.
  2. Close StageWhisper.
  3. Replace the existing app in your Applications folder.
  4. Reopen.
