When you start a listening session, StageWhisper begins analyzing the conversation in real time. It generates coaching signals that appear on your screen as the call progresses. These signals are private. They’re rendered in a floating overlay on your desktop. The person on the other end of the call has no way to see them.

The signal system

Signals are short messages that appear during your call. Each one has a severity level:
ColorMeaningExample
🟢 GreenAn opportunity or positive observation”They just mentioned they’re evaluating vendors. Good time to ask about their criteria.”
🟠 OrangeSomething to be aware of”You’ve been talking for 90 seconds straight. Consider asking a question.”
🔴 RedNeeds your attention now”They expressed a concern about pricing and you moved past it without acknowledging.”
Signals appear in the Insights tab of the session panel. New signals push older ones down. You can scroll back through them if you miss one.

How the AI generates signals

The AI receives a continuous transcript of the conversation along with your Playbook guidance. As the call progresses, it evaluates what’s being said against your instructions and decides when a signal is warranted. The process is streaming. There’s no batch delay. When the AI identifies something worth flagging, the signal appears within seconds. The quality of signals depends directly on your Playbook. A well-written Playbook with specific instructions produces focused, relevant coaching. A generic Playbook produces generic advice.

Using signals during a call

Keep the overlay visible but out of the way. The session panel can sit alongside your call app, or you can glance at it between speaking turns. A few patterns that work well:
  • Glance at red signals immediately. They flag things that matter right now.
  • Use orange signals as gentle course corrections. If you see one about talking too much, wrap up your current point and ask a question.
  • Review green signals when there’s a natural pause. They often highlight opportunities you can follow up on.
You don’t need to act on every signal. The AI errs on the side of surfacing things rather than staying silent. Use your judgment about which ones matter in the moment.

The control panel

The control panel is the small bar at the top of your screen. During a session, it shows:
  • A listen/pause/stop toggle for the session
  • A privacy toggle to hide or show the overlay
  • Session status indicators
Press Cmd + \ to quickly toggle the overlay visibility if you need to hide it (for example, when sharing your screen).

Session limits

Your plan determines how many coaching signals you receive per session. The Coach plan includes signal generation for all sessions. If you’re on a trial and hit the signal cap, the app will let you know.

Pausing and resuming

You can pause a session without losing context. When you resume, the AI picks up where it left off with the full conversation history intact. This is useful for multi-part meetings or when you need to step away briefly.
