Permissions

StageWhisper needs two macOS permissions to function. You’ll be prompted for both on first launch.

Screen Recording

This permission allows StageWhisper to capture system audio from your call application (Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, etc.). Without it, the app has no audio to analyze. To grant it: System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording > enable StageWhisper.
If you skip this permission, StageWhisper will launch but won’t be able to hear any call audio. You can grant it later from System Settings.

Accessibility

This permission allows the overlay window to stay on top of other applications during your call. To grant it: System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility > enable StageWhisper.

Network requirements

StageWhisper connects to backend services for transcription, AI analysis, and session storage. You need a stable internet connection during sessions. All traffic goes to EU-hosted infrastructure. Outbound connections:
  • api.stagewhisper.io (HTTPS, WebSocket)
  • dashboard.stagewhisper.io (HTTPS)

Compatible call apps

StageWhisper captures system audio, so it works with any application that plays audio through your speakers or headphones:
  • Zoom
  • Google Meet
  • Microsoft Teams
  • Slack Huddles
  • Discord
  • Phone calls via Bluetooth/AirPlay
  • Any other audio source playing through macOS
StageWhisper captures what comes through your system audio output. If you can hear it, StageWhisper can hear it too.

Hardware recommendations

StageWhisper itself is lightweight (built with Tauri, not Electron), but real-time audio processing and AI analysis do use some resources.
  • At least 4 GB of free RAM
  • A stable internet connection (the AI processing happens server-side)
  • Headphones recommended to keep the other person’s audio clean from your microphone echo
